So, I know I've been neglecting this post and I apologize for anyone else out there suffering through back and neck pain.
I've actually had a number of injections since my last post and I'm getting ready to have a couple more over the next 2 weeks....the pattern that has worked best for me is to get the first round and then after two weeks, get a second round of injections and then the injection lasts for about a year.
I actually love where I get my injections done, the same place I had my second ACDF surgery, The Oklahoma Spine Hospital. You go in during the early morning or afternoon and depending on the number of injections by your doctor, you can be in and out of there in 2.5 hours feeling much better, although I always have to take my husband cause I get some relaxing meds through my IV...I'm not proud, I don't want to move when the doctor puts a needle in my spine, so I'm perfectly willing to be drowsy for a little while! I've already been a hero with pain...my first child was born with no drugs...
Anyway, the reason I'm going in for another round of injections is that my sciatica is absolutely killing me. So much so, that I am not on 8 Norco/day, along with 12 gabapentin (which unfortunately knock me out, so I've only taken 4/night for the past couple of days), and an occasional muscle relaxer. I went to talk to my surgeon, Dr. Andrew Parkinson about it and they did an MRI on my lower back and I have a grade 4 annular tear in my L5-S1 causing alot of the problems...that's when he suggesting going back to Dr Yates, a wonderful pain management doctor, for some injections.
I will update you after the injections on how I feel and whether or not anything actually worked! Keep your fingers crossed.
